Onto something bigger and badder AMT's 2010 Dodge Challenger R/T kit
Fantastic technique went into making these tyres, no centre seam is a fantasic thing to see when looking through parts.
Original Wheels vs Custom Wheels, 18" w standard tyres to 19" with low profile tyres makes for an easy upgrade.
Some more test fitting required but might have to tweak ride height a couple of mm, but it was getting late and sleep seemed more important.
Parts have been soaking in soapy water after a quick wash last night, wheels (the only chrome on this kit) headed for ultrasonic cleaner and some simple green.
Washed and in the dehydrator for a good dry out.
There is a lot of tidying up that this kit will need, tons of flash on sprues, not as bad on the actual parts. Solid chassis will make for fun detialing.
Not happy with the way the fuel filler sits, lil putty and sanding should sort that as long i remeber to mask it while painting
The entire assembly process fits on 3 A4 sheets :-/
intitial tidy done, quick coat of primer to show up any further imperfections
Wheels finally out of ultrasonic cleaner ready for the factory chrome plating to be replaced by alclad.
Primer shows up the faults in when the part was moulded, luckily this should all be covered by seats and flocking.
Thankfully nothing that bad on the body.
The decal sheet, nice that you get the black and white sets
Trying a trick from military modellers where the white goes on at a shallow angle from one direction only
Then black from the other direction to make the shadows really pop
hope I can keep most of this look after the rest of the paint etc. goes on the chassis
Black primer on the panel lies etc. that will hopefully work like 'pre shading'
Also trying to darken up the 'shadow' areas
Lighter on the roof
Darker round the sills
Wet sanded and drying in the dehydrator waiting on the first coats of paint.
Colour on the base and highlighting of the suspension and exhaust systems
First coats on the body, I'm happy with the choice of Zero Paints "General Lee" orange but its thinner than most paints I've used so more coats needed for
an even colour
1 light and 2 heaver coats on, can see from the roof there still needs to be a couple more heavy coats
Wheels in Alclad base black
Chassis done with exhaust highlights done with Alclad pale burnt exhaust and the engine/suspension parts in polished aluminium
Seats tidied and clear coated to even out the texture and colour, mufflers done, tips to be done.

Unfortunatley i managed to rub through the clear on the little mound on the roof during the fine sanding process and I noticed a problem with the brake fit and ride height which left me fustrated so this has been temporarily shelved as I think I was putting too much pressure on myself to get it finished by the end of the year.
Ive taken a break from auto and am working on a figure diorama, if you are interested check out the link in my sig.
Im also heading away later this week so will probably take a new kit, most likely a bike to prep while away.
